The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece. It comprises 9 Faculties organized into 39 Schools, as well as 3 independent Schools (a total of 42 Schools).

More than 95,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students study at the Aristotle University, 86,000 in undergraduate programs and 9,000 in postgraduate programs.

The Teaching and Research Staff represent 2,330 people (694 professors, 625 associate professors, 500 assistant professors, and 511 lecturers); the Scientific Teaching Staff number 103; and the Special Laboratory Teaching Staff 306 people. This is further supported by: the 412 members of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff for teaching services; and the 973 members of administrative staff.

  • Construction science and technology
  • Hydraulics and environmental protection
  • Geotechnics
  • Transport planning and infrastructure, project management & development  

  • The Civil Engineering Department has over 2.500 Undergraduates and over 150 students each year. It awards Diplomas,  postgraduate and PhD degrees.

    THE TRANSPORT ENGINEERING LABORATORY (TEL)

    Staff: 6 academic (5 professors of all levels, 1 lecturer), 8 assistant personnel  
    The main subjects of the Laboratory's research activities in the last ten years are the following:  

  • ICT in Transport applications
  • Transport Modeling
  • Transport policy formulation
  • Urban and Interurban Transport Operations
  • Freight transport systems and logistics
  • Feasibility studies and investment appraisal
  • Public transport  systems
  • Road Safety
  • Air Transport operation
  • Railway Transport operation

  • In the period 1996-2008 the Laboratory participated in a total of about 60 Research Projects with a total budget of over 4,2 million Euro. Indicative TEL, EU funded projects of relevance to B2BLoco:
    - MISS, PISTA, TRANSLOGNET, THEMIS, IN-EMERGENCY,  IN-RESPONSE, INTERPORT, CORELOG, MIRTO , EUROBORDER, DUMAS
