Research is one of the most important areas of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University activities. There were 969 members of the academic scientific staff engaged in research works throughout the year 2005, including 589 researches holding scientific degrees. Among them about 90 researches from VGTU faculties of Transport Engineering and Environmental Engineering, Transport Institute and Competence Centre of Internodal Transport and Logistics (CCITL) were/are involved in the investigations in the transport field. CCITL of VGTU was created as the impetus for creating new strategies of organizing the transport system, in closer and more effective cooperation between various modes of transport as well as transport research and business companies. It is innovative cooperation base where representatives of academia, government and transport industry meet together for new ideas on transport politics. The main task of CCITL of VGTU is executing scientific and apply research works in the sphere of intermodal transport and logistics development. Together CCITL is acting as Managing (administrative) institution of Lithuanian Intermodal transport Technological Platform which deals with some specific tasks related to organization round table discussions, seminars and conferences on topic development and promotion intermodality, dissemination information on intermodal transport developments and innovations, as well as promotion co-operation between intermodal transport hubs and logistics centers both on national and trans-national level. VGTU took/takes part in EC Framework 5 and 6 projects: RAILSERV (partner), INTERMODA (subcontractor), NAS-ITIP (partner), BESTUFS (subcontractor), PROMIT (subcontractor), MOTOS (partner), as well as in INTERREG IIIB projects: NeLoC, InLoC, East-West and InterBaltic (in all – partner). |
