EUDDPlus - European Driver´s Desk Advanced Concept Implementation

• EUDDplus aims at the development, in-field testing and validation of the interoperable, harmonised and modularised train driver's desk
• Follow-up project of the FP 5 project European Driver's Desk (EUDD)
• Due to its more ambitious complexity, the locomotive application has been chosen for first field-testing under real operational conditions with a pre-competitive R&D approach
• It is the aim of the EUDDplus team to minimise the configuration and layout differences for different kinds of rolling stock
• A modern multi system locomotive will be the platform for EUDDplus integration
• The project EUDDplus consists of 3 major steps:

1.	specification compliant to ORS/FRS/SyRS/FIS, development and vehicle integration of the new desk including software development
2.	in-field tests in least two networks (including the necessary certification), involving drivers from several other operators to justify expected advantages
3.	recommendations derived for broad scale exploitation and for facilitating of future certification procedure, i.e. for those countries the vehicle platform was not designed for

Added value for SMEs

• EUDDplus aims at the in-field-testing and validation of the future standardised driver’s desk – the workplace of the train driver
• Project has a connection to all the companies (including SMEs) that are involved in the development and manufacturing of driver’s desk components, such as controls, switches, displays, software for displays, mechanical instruments, etc
• The EUDDplus project is embedded in larger “environment”, determined by relevant documents (such as the new UIC leaflet 612) as well as by standardisation processes (such as the discussion in CEN TC256)
• EUDDplus results support these standardisation activities
• The documents as such are relevant for the SMEs active in the driver’s desk/train control business
• Project’s Final Conference in February 2010. Quite early for SMEs (besides project partners SMEs) to have already used/exploited innovative project results
