EUROMAR-BRIDGES - Building Bridges Between EU Member and Candidate States in Maritime Research on Transport Within the Frames of European Research Area



Building on and being the extension and refinement of the ENCOMAR-TRANSPORT (Enhanced Co-operation between EU Member States and Associated Candidate States in Maritime Research on Transport), the EUROMAR-BRIDGES project had the following general strategic objectives:
1) To increase the co-operation and intensify the efforts in R&D which are vital to improve competitiveness and technological excellence in maritime field by building the cluster comprised of companies and organizations from EU candidate countries (CC), EU new member states (NMS) and third countries; 2) To identify valuable R&D, SMEs, and other actors with significant and original experience in the maritime and waterborne transport and logistics field, and stimulate, encourage and facilitate the participation of organizations from the CC and NMS by providing up-to-date information on mainly maritime related European projects; 3) To provide the contribution for Integrated and Sustainable Maritime Transport System (IMTS) in Europe by realizing and promoting the idea of European Research Area (ERA) across the chain of stakeholders at national level; 4) To raise the awareness of benefits coming from commonly solving problems related to IMTS; and 5) To ensure a sustainable development and security of transport by active participation of organizations from NMS and CC. Additionally, selected other objectives were encouraging and bringing about the participation of the members in R&D to support programme of the EC (including breaking the mentality barriers), improving the knowledge about maritime research activities at the European level, and increasing awareness on importance of the maritime research. Attention was paid to show the added value as well as advantages & disadvantages, generated by international cooperation, contribution to all participating in common R&D activities.

Nine National Awareness Workshops and four Maritime Brokerage Events. /Some of the topics most interesting to SMEs were joint maritime R&D activities, benefits from European approach at the company level, maritime and shipping clusters in the light of joint maritime R&D&I activities and building bridges between EU MS, Candidate and Third States in Maritime Research within the frames of ERA/
Ten sustainable national contacts points were further developed and reinforced within the project.
Three new project proposals prepared for FP7 calls.
Project’s Web portal with added-value materials.
Some of the topics most interesting to SMEs were joint maritime R&D activities, benefits from European approach at the company level, maritime and shipping cluster in the light of joint maritime RTDI activities and building bridges between EU MS, Candidate and Third States in Maritime Research within the frames of European Research Area.
